History of ME London
Where We Come From
ME London stands on the corner of Aldwych Street and The Strand, originally the home of the popular Gaiety Theatre, home of the legendary and extraordinarily popular Gaiety Girls. Sadly, the theatre suffered bomb damage during the Second World War and was torn down.
History
The triangular site on which ME London now stands was originally the home of the popular Gaiety Theatre, which suffered bomb damage during the WWII and was torn down in the 1960s. Experts attended the excavation of the hotel after remnants of an old bar were uncovered in the basement.
The hotel stands next to the recently renovated Marconi House; former headquarters of the BBC where the first radio broadcast was made in 1922.
Every inch of London is seeped in layers of history; you never know whose footsteps you’re walking in.
